Mrs. Annie Lee Epley, longtime resident and advocate of Marion and McDowell County, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the age of 98.  Annie Lee was born in High Point on September 25, 1918 to the late Benjamin Claude Wages and Ella Wardell Wages.  She was Vice President of Asheville Savings Bank in Marion for many years and was also very involved in numerous local organizations to which she selflessly devoted much of her time.  Her husband, Benjamin C. “Ben” Epley preceded her in death in 1994.

 

She leaves behind two daughters, Rebekah E. Smith of Marion and Victoria E. Bezems and husband Gerald of Allentown, PA; three grandchildren, Becky Smith and Ben and Julia Bezems; two great-grandchildren, Anna and Madison Drum; a special daughter, Lee Hughey; and her special friend and companion, Russell “Duck” Murphy.

 

A service of remembrance and celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Marion with Rev. Warren Owens and Rev. Kent Smith officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.  A private family committal service will be held at McDowell Memorial Park.  Flowers are acceptable and appreciated, however, those desiring to make a memorial contribution in her memory are encouraged to consider First United Methodist Church at 176 Robert Street, Marion, NC  28752.
