The Piano Brothers

Mr. Donald L. Stamey, age 81, of Marion, passed away at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 following a period of declining health.  Donald was born in Morganton on September 30, 1935 to the late John Colen and Lillian McKinney Stamey.  He served his country faithfully in the U. S. Army and was a devoted member of Bethel Free Will Baptist Church.  Donald was self-employed as a plumber for many years but ultimately retired as the Head of Maintenance for Pisgah Dye and Yarn in Old Fort.  He had many interests, among them being a love for making a garden and tending to his yard work.  He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.  He loved his family very much and his passing leaves a void in their hearts.  His wife of 55 years, Violet Mace Stamey, and a daughter, Carol Revis, preceded him in death.

Donald leaves behind four children, Elaine Finley and husband Dennis of Nebo, Darrell Stamey of Marion, Terry Stamey and wife Sandy of Nebo and Cecelia Stamey of the home; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 21, 2017 at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church between the hours of 10:00 and 11:00 a.m.  A service in celebration of his life and his going home will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ray Stockton presiding.  Burial, with military honors will follow at McDowell Memorial Park where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved Violet.  Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army.  Flowers are appreciated, however, those wishing to make a memorial contribution in his memory are asked to consider Bethel Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund at PO Box 236, Nebo, NC  28761.
