Mrs. Doris Keys Woody, age 104, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Rose Hill Retirement Center following a short period of declining health.  Doris was born in Washington, DC on August 17, 1913 to the late William Henry Keys and Pearl Mosseller Keys.  Although she was a homemaker for most of her married life, she did work for several years as the manager of Bost Bakery in Marion.  Doris was a member of First Baptist Church in Marion.  She will be remembered for her generosity and would give to anyone in need whatever she had.  She also enjoyed reading.  Her husband, Clarence C. Woody, Sr., and a brother, William C. Keys, preceded her in death.

 

Doris leaves behind a son, Clarence Charles Woody, Jr. and his wife Opal of Marion; three grandsons, Lee E. Woody and his wife Michelle of Seattle, Robert J. Woody and his wife Vicky, and their daughter, Samantha, and John D. Woody of the home; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Pat Radford and Fay Green..

 

A service in remembrance and celebration of her life will be held on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Alex H. Hanks presiding.  The family will be available to receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in McDowell Memorial Park where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.  Flowers are acceptable and appreciated.  Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in her memory are encouraged to consider First Baptist Church at 99 N. Main Street, Marion, NC  28752.
