Dr. Charles "Mike" Milliren

April 3, 1946 ~ November 10, 2017 (age 71)

The Piano Brothers

Dr. Charles “Mike” Milliren, age 71, of Marion, transitioned from his earthly home to his eternal home with his Savior on Friday, November 10, 2017.  Mike’s Christian faith sustained him through several years of declining health.  He was a native of Salisbury, Maryland, born on April 3, 1946 to the late Max Milliren and Rachel Mitchell Milliren.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Marion.  An R&D Polymer chemist, he genuinely enjoyed his work.  He was with Bayer Corporation for many years and later worked with the Dan T. Moore Company, from which he eventually retired.  Mike had a passion for making scale models of exotic cars and various other things, but he particularly enjoyed making clipper ships, meticulously creating these objects using raw materials.

As much as he enjoyed his work and hobbies, his true love was for his wife, children, and especially his grandchildren, who were his special joy.  Mike put the needs of his family ahead of his own and they always benefitted from his emotional strength and steadfast love.  He was preceded in death by his dear father- and mother–in-law, Bob and Sue Love, who sincerely loved him like a son.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 44 years, Martha Love Milliren, of the home; five children, Max Milliren of Cleveland, OH, Marie Tucker and husband Connor of Longview, TX, Margaret Gauch and husband Matthew of Raleigh, Matthew Milliren and wife Ashley of Fayetteville, AR, and Mark Milliren and wife Amber of Akron, OH; a sister, Patricia “Pat” Milliren and husband Alan Comulada of Port Angeles, WA; and four grandchildren, Mara Gauch, Everly Milliren, Graham Milliren, and Lillian Tucker.

Memorials may be made to Gideons International at PO Box 1788, Marion, NC 28752, or to First Baptist Church of Marion at 99 N. Main Street, Marion, NC 28752.  Private services will be held later in keeping with his wishes.  The family would like to express their deep thanks for the loving care provided to Mike during the years of his illness by all the folks at Rose Hill Retirement Center, staff and patients alike, and to the nurses and doctors at The McDowell Hospital for their excellent care during his final illness.
