Gladys Haynes Silver, 94, of Marion, surrounded by her friends and family, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2011 at her residence. She was born April 20, 1916 to the late Nathaniel Beard and Julia Padgett Haynes. Gladys was a member of Landis Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Old Fort High School and was valedictorian of her class. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grand, great and great-great grandmother and caregiver of her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert L. Silver, daughter Frances Silver Bates, son-in-law Floyd T. Brooks and daughter-in-law Linda Seagle Silver.
Mrs. Silver is survived by four children: sons, R. Wayne Silver and Charles Silver and wife Sandra “Snookie”; daughters, Eloise S. Brooks Smith, and husband Edward J. and Irene S. Painter and husband Bobby and son-in-law Robert Bates all of Marion; one sister, Opal Buckner of Michigan; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 7, at 3:00 PM at Hicks Chapel Baptist Church. Revs. Milton Hollifield and Chad Wise will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 PM prior to the service. Interment will be in Hicks Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
