Mamie (Davis) Elliott

December 23, 1922 ~ June 6, 2017 (age 94)

The Piano Brothers

Mrs. Mamie Davis Elliott, age 94, of Old Fort, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville following a brief period of declining health.  She was born in McDowell County on December 23, 1922 to the late Carl and Louise Conner Davis.  Mamie was retired from American Thread and was a member of Old Fort First Baptist Church.  She enjoyed making quilts when she was younger and was always ready to play Bingo.  Her love for her family was great and she showed it in many ways.  She had a tender heart, and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew that her faithfulness and love for them was unquestioned.  Mamie loved her independence and enjoyed nothing better than going to the Senior Center for lunch and fellowship.  Her warm-hearted and outgoing nature won her many friends and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.  Her beloved husband of 50 years, Johnson Elliott, preceded her in death on October 16, 1997.

Mamie leaves behind three children, Johnsie Coates and husband Ronnie of Old Fort, Curley Elliott and wife Marilyn of The Villages in Florida, and step-son Lloyd Elliott and wife Peggy of Mauldin, SC; her dear sister, Shirley Earley and husband Jack of Midland; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A service of remembrance and celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Service & Cremations in Old Fort with Rev. David Blackwelder officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in the Stone Mountain Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.  Flowers are acceptable and appreciated.  Those desiring to make a memorial contribution in her memory are encouraged to consider Hospice of McDowell County at 575 Airport Road, Marion, NC 28752.
