    Mrs. Mary Frances Jamison Brookshire, 86, of Marion, passed away peacefully, following a brief illness, with her beloved children by her side at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, May 28, 2017 at the John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville.

    Mrs. Brookshire was born in McDowell County, North Carolina on December 10, 1930 to the late Henry Jamison and Bertha Church Jamison. She graduated from Marion High School with the class of 1949. She was married to her husband of forty three years, Swain Windell Brookshire, who preceded her in death in 1996. Mrs. Brookshire was a seamstress at Washington Mills and was a member of First Christian Church of Marion since 1966. She was a participant at the Care Partners Adult Day Care Program in Asheville. Mrs. Brookshire enjoyed bluegrass music and loved the company of people. She always had a smile on her face and was affectionately known as “Memaw” to many. She had a wonderful sense of humor that will always be remembered by her many friends.

    In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Brookshire was preceded in death by her much loved Chihuahua, Penny.

    Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Glenda Jenney and husband John of Goshen, Indiana, Carolyn Wilson and husband Doug of Marion, and Virginia Mae Brookshire and fiancé Larry Carver of Marion; a son, Windell Brookshire of Marion and Asheville, whom lovingly cared for her; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Jenney Hummel and husband Lewie of Goshen, Indiana, Mark Jenney of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Lauren Wilson Cain and husband Adam of King, North Carolina; and two great grandchildren, Addison Cain, Sawyer Hummel, and one due in September.

    A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion with Pastor Don Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
