Verlie Stamey Smith, age 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at the home of her daughter Pat Bundy.  A native of McDowell County, Verlie was born on April 2, 1930 to the late Conley Stamey and Maggie Biddix Stamey.  She was retired from Marion Manufacturing Co.  She was a faithful member of North Cove Church of God until her health declined.  A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she loved her family very much and was much loved by them.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening.  Her husband, Calvin Smith, preceded her in death in 1987.  Two sons, Calvin Michael Smith and (infant) Randy Dean Smith, as well as an infant daughter, Carolyn Smith, and a beloved grandson, Calvin Michael Smith, Jr., also passed on before her.

 

Surviving are three children, Pat Bundy and husband Michael of Marion, Roger Lee Smith and wife Barbara of Marion, and Paul Smith and wife Betty of Old Fort; three brothers, Bud Stamey and wife Frances, Clifford Stamey and wife Mary, and Andy Stamey, all of Marion; two sisters, Lucy Mask of Hickory and Eva Mae Hogan of Marion; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many special friends.

 

A service in celebration of her life and home-going will be held on Monday, June 3, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion with Mr. Mike Bundy speaking.  The family will be available from 2:00 p.m. until service time to receive friends.  Burial will follow in the Biddix Cemetery on Pepper’s Creek Road.
