Mr. Francis A. O’Buckley, age 90, of Marion, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2012 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville following a brief illness. Mr. O’Buckley was born in Lanesboro, PA on October, 20, 1921 to the late Donal Ambrose O’Buckley and Mary Frances Moltz O’Buckley. His work career began with the Sun Oil Company where he served as a warehouse superintendent. In 1969 he was called into the missionary field and moved with his family to El Salvador. To support himself and his family he developed several different businesses including supplying background music to merchants, installing remote control gate openers and electronic security systems for banks, businesses and homes. A member of the Marion Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, he was instrumental in starting the Spanish language congregation in Marion. His first wife, to whom he was married for 63 years, Gretchen Lawrence O’Buckley, preceded him in death in 2006. In January of 2008 he married Nancy Diaz-O’Buckley. Never one to sit still for long, and not caring for cold climates, they relocated to Panama where they planned to spend time during the winter months. Two sons, Francis O’Buckley, Jr., and Timothy O’Buckley and a granddaughter, Kaitlyn Rose McMullen also preceded him in death.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are five children, Michael O’Buckley and his wife Claudia of Marion, Gretchen Johansen and her husband Ken of Newland, Kathleen O’Buckley of Asheville, Meg Harrington and her husband Daniel of Butler, PA and Nina McMullen and her husband Dan of Princeton, KY; two step-sons, Ricardo Medina of North Bergen, NJ and Edwin Medina of Manhattan, NY; a brother, Gerald Thomas O’Buckley of Queens, NY; three sisters, Teresa Donovan of Horeseheads, NY, Alice Town of Riverside, CA and Kory Morlin of Morganton; fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at the Marion Kingdon Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with Daniel J. Harrington officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Kingdom Hall
