Lester “Toby” Rhom, age 73, of Nebo, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012 at The McDowell Hospital. A native of McDowell County, Lester was born October 12, 1938 and was a son of the late Claude Truman Rhom and Joney Frankie Arrowood Rhom. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. His family will remember him as a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many. Preceding Mr. Rhom in death are two brothers, Howard Rhom and Gordon “Bud” Rhom; sister, Geneva Watkins; grandson, Daniel Wyatt and son-in-law, Ray Smith.
Saddened by the loss of Mr. Rhom is his wife of 43 years, Irene Webb Rhom of the home; six children: Lester Wyatt of Nebo, Patricia Whitesides of Nebo, Frances Smith of Rutherfordton, Carroll Wyatt of Marion, Elaine Bollinger of Marion and Kay Murray of Marion; five sisters: Virginia Rumfelt of Nebo, Mildred Lawing of Nebo, Myrtle Weeks of Rutherfordton, Mae Davis and husband Frank of Stanley, NC and Jean Starrett and husband Allen of Lowell, NC; sixteen grandchildren, including Ethan Smith and fiancée Jennifer and great granddaughter Emilee, of the home; fourteen great grandchildren. A special thanks to Karen Pressley, care giver; Pat Sumlin, special niece and Janet Michaels, friend.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with Revs. Ralph Shuffler and Steven Painter officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
