Mrs. Lura Elliott Brown, age 88, of Old Fort, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Mountain Ridge Wellness Center in Black Mountain. A native of McDowell County, she was born on June 20, 1923 to the late Thomas D. and Laura Kuykendall Elliott. Mrs. Brown retired from Highland Farms, was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph βJoeβ Henry Brown; a son, Bobby Joe Brown; a daughter, Dorothy β Dottieβ Louise Brown, and a grandson, Bobby Joe Brown, Jr.
Left to cherish her memories are a daughter-in-law, Donna Brown of Old Fort; two granddaughters, Kimberly Sherrill and husband Alan of Lenoir and Jennifer Brown of Old Fort; two great-grandchildren, Victoria Rose Sherrill and Catherine Ann Sherrill
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Home - Old Fort Chapel with the Rev. James Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Community Cemetery.
