What do I say to a mother who was the greatest person that I ever knew. Mom there is no way to express my love for you. You were the kindest, most loving, caring person on earth. My heart aches to no longer be able to hold you, kiss you and talk to you. You were the best Nana to two little girls that have adored you since the day they were born. We will take care of PawPaw just as you would have wanted us to do. You taught me that love and loving others is the only way to live, I know that is why I am the person I am today.
I know you will be a shining star always looking down on me and my faith is so deep now because I want to spend eternity with you. I love you so much and I will see you again! I will never be the same but will remember all that you have taught me through the years and I will be a better person. I love you
Kally, your daughter who loves you to the moon and back

Norman and family,
Please accept my sympathy in the passing your wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and neighbor. What impressed me about Nancy was her beautiful smile whenever I saw her, no matter if she was feeling good or not. What impressed me about Norman, was his undying love and dedication to this woman. Nancy and I joked about what a wonderful Nurse that Norman had became. Please know that she will watch over you and the family for years to come. Time heals, cherish your memories and I will continue to uplift you in my prayers.
Please let me know if I can help in any way.
Much Love,

Nancy,
Words can not begin to express the loss that I feel. Twelve years ago you gave me a chance and became not only my Principal, but a friend, mentor and apart of my family. You inspired, guided, molded, showed love and guided me to become the type of educator that I am today. When I was in need of a simple chair for my classroom, you asked Norm and he brought me one from the factory. You were the head of a family not just a principal. Everyday you are in my thoughts and prayers and that will never change. You changed my life and I am so grateful to you. Thank you.

Norman and Family,
Please accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of Nancy. Nancy was one of the finest persons I have ever had the priviledge of knowing. I'll always remember Nancy's infectious laugh and sense of humor, her kindness, her strong yet gentle spirit and most of all her love. She taught me quite a lot and I shall always hold her in highest regard whenever I think of her. This earth has lost an angel but heaven has gained one. May God give you comfort during this most tender of times.

Norman and family, Thank you for sharing Nancy with so many educators, me included, over the course of her life. What a joy it was to work with her at Buncombe Early College for seveal years before she became ill. In my short time knowing Nancy, I saw what life long friends saw..... a happy, encouraging, and caring human being. Our school blossomed under her guidance. Personally, my life was enriched by knowing her. Your loss is felt in education circles across NC. My prayers are with you. Meg Turner

Dear Guthrie Family, My heart is sadden for you for losing such a wonderful person. She did have a servant's heart. Working with her at Buncombe County Early College, that quality of being a servant was definitely shown. She gave so much of herself through her knowledge of education through years of experience, but I saw it was a one on one where she was continually listening to every person and seeing what their needs were. As secretary there, she was always doing kind things for me and it was a joy to see her and we would catch up on our families, life, and how good God is. She was a blessing to me and I will miss her. My prayers are with you as I know the only true comforter is God! Mary Jaco

I am sorry to hear the world lost as wonderful a woman as Mrs. Guthrie. I will remember her as an educator who taught me as much about myself as she did English or literature. She instilled a great deal of confidence in a great many young people at a time when self-assurance might have been more vital than bread or water. I am grateful to have known Mrs. Guthrie and only wish I had thought to thank her sooner. My condolences to the family.

Nancy,
No words can express the sadness we feel and the void in our hearts. But equally, there are not enough words to express the love you shared with us all. You took me in as family from day one. Over the past few days I continue to reflect on our times together as both girls were born. You were such a support and even helped me with the simple things like dinners and surviving sleep deprivation. We talked about so many life lessons. You always had the best advice for me personally and professionally. I always enjoyed our talks! I know you are talking away now - and I cannot wait to hear your voice again in heaven.
With love,
Greg

I worked with Nancy at McDowell High and I''ll never forget her sweet smile and her personality that she treated everyone with kindness and respect. I remember her working with Student Council and I was at MHS when she got Teacher of the Year. She was so deserving because she genuinely loved teaching and was an inspiration to all she taught. I''ll always consider her my friend. I''m sorry I can''t come to the funeral but you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Mrs. Guthrie gave my wife and I our start in education. She took a chance by hiring me. Nancy taught me how to become an educator. I will always love her for being my first boss her at East Junior because she was such an excellent principal. As good of an educator as she was; she was an even better person.
Love Always,

Norman and famliy, I was saddened to learn of Nancy's passing. I enjoyed working with her at McDowell High..the ideas, problems, plans we shared as we all worked together in the English department. She was a real lady who always smiled even through trials for she knew that our heavenly father had it all under control and would take her thorugh. I enjoyed our chats when we met after she left the high school, which was usually in the grocery store or the shopping centers. I share your sorrow, and rejoice with you in knowing that we will all her meet again in his glorious kingdom.

Norman, Kally, Scott and Neal and family. I graduated from Winthrop with Nancy. I along with so many of her classmates were saddened to hear of her passsing. I always admired and looked up to Nancy in school and afterwards. I was at her funeral but there were so many people for you to greet, I chose to relay my thoughts and prayers to you in this way. I know all of you must have been exhausted after yesterday but I know that memories and Nancy's spirit and love will sustain you in the future.

Norman and Family,
You all continue to be in our prayers and we want you to know that if you need us for anything, please let us know. The funeral service was absolutely beautiful as as I sat and listened to words from you and Neal, I thought how very happy Nancy would have been with all of the wonderful tributes given to her. She was a "special" person and will always hold a very special place in our hearts. I will never forget her graciousness as she greeted all of the people at Layne and Margaret's rehearsal dinner before they were married. She was truly a lady, a wonderful friend and we will all miss her!
