Virginia Lonon Westmoreland, age 88, of Marion, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at her home. A native of McDowell County, she was born June 7, 1924 to the late Joseph Clyde Lonon and Easter Jolly Lonon. Virginia retired from American Thread and was a member of Clinchfield Baptist Church. She is preceded in death, in addition to her parents, four brothers, Charles, James, Marion and Joseph Clyde Lonon, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, George Lee Westmoreland of the home; three sons, Gary Westmoreland and his wife Karen of Deland, FL, Boyce Westmoreland and Mickey Westmoreland, both of Marion; five grandchildren, Matthew, Neal, Kay, Lee Ann and Brandi; eight great grandchildren; four sisters, Ruby Daggett, Mary Ruth Elliott, Mildred Poteat and Shelby Poteat, all of Marion; two brothers, Jack Lonon and Rev. Calvin Lonon, both of Marion.
A funeral service for Mrs. Westmoreland will be held Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home with Rev. Phil Murdock officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home. Interment will be in McDowell Memorial Park
