Cora Lee Stockton, age 96, of Old Fort, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012 at her residence with her loving family by her side. A native of McDowell County, NC, Cora Lee was born June 17, 1916 to the late Robert Richardson and Lillie Williams Richardson. She was a homemaker and former member of Coxes Creek Free Will Baptist Church where she served as Treasurer. Her family will remember her as a passionate sewer who loved flowers and gardening, but most of all, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Johnie Stockton; one son, Bobby Joe Stockton, Sr.; two brothers, Preston Richardson and his wife, Iris and Charlie Richardson and his wife, Lucy; two sisters, Magnaline Richardson and Mary Elizabeth Richardson; one son-in-law, Rev. Guy H. Godfrey.
She is survived by one daughter, Carol Stockton Godfrey of Marion; two sons, Harold Dean Stockton and his wife, Darlene of Old Fort and Charles Lee Stockton and his wife, Evelyn of Marion; daughter-in-law, Irene Stockton of Nebo; nine grandchildren, Bonnie Burgin and her husband, Danny, Bobby Joe Stockton II and his wife, Mary, John Eric Stockton, Donna Kaye Thomas and her husband, John, Alice Renae Carroll and her husband, Tim, Judie Darlene King, Cristal Dawn Winters, Michael Allen Stockton and Lisa Evon Whitesides and her husband, Allen; a number of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Georgia Lavender. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and special friends, Jeanette and Carrol Hensley.
A funeral service for Mrs. Stockton will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion with Revs. Billy Stockton, Ray Stockton, George William, David McHale and Gerald Stines officiating. Burial will follow in Cherry Springs Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home. At other times the family will be meeting at Harold and Darlene Stockton’s residence at 1119 Parker Padgett Road, Old Fort.
Flowers are acceptable and appreciated, those desiring to make memorial donations in Mrs. Stockton’s memory are asked to consider a church of one’s choice.
