John Edward Hogan, Sr., age 74, of Marion, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013 at his residence with his loving family by his side.  A native of McDowell County, born July 8, 1938, he was the son of the late Dora Lenard Chapman Hogan.  Mr. Hogan retired from Air Preheater following 23 years of service.  He was a member of Calvary Temple Church and was a U.S. Army Veteran.  In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his grandfather, Amos Gudger Chapman.

Mr. Hogan is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Eva Stamey Hogan of the home; one daughter, Louise Hogan Fox and her husband, David of Marion; two sons, John Edward Hogan, Jr. of Marion and Jonathan Smith of Nebo; two sisters, Doris Hooker and her husband, Bill of Winston-Salem and Frances Robinson and her husband, Charles of Marion; two grandchildren, John Ross Hunley and Justin Ryan Hunley, both of Marion.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home with Revs. Leonard Morgan and Howard Riddle officiating.  Burial will follow at Biddix Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Army. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 7, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Home.
