Charles E. Cable, Jr., age 74, of the Glenwood Community, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville. A native of Swain County, he was born on September 7, 1931 to the late Charles E. Cable and Essie Blankenship Cable. Mr. Cable was a member and Deacon of Bethel Baptist Church and was retired from Drexel Heritage Furnishings. He was active as a Gideon until his health prevented him from serving. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. A daughter, Joyce Sluder, a son-in-law, Bill Sluder and seven brothers, Coy, Troy, Ray, Gay, Wallace, Frank and Ted preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Melba Vincent Cable of the home; a daughter, Phyllis Revis and her husband Lester of Marion; three grandchildren, Charles Kelly Revis, Ashley Sluder and her friend Travis Lawing and Andy Sluder and his fiance Kasee Trefzger; a great granddaughter, Taylor Sluder; two sisters, Grace Whitehead of Wallard, TN and Jean Caldwell of Jefferson, NC; three sisters-in-law, Juanita Cable, Phoebe Cable and Josie Cable, all of Maryville, TN; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 7, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Upton officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in McDowell Memorial Park on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon's International at PO Box 1788, Marion, NC 28752.
