George Otis Conley, 85, of Pleasant Gardens died Friday, December 11, 2009 at the Mission Hospital Campus in Asheville, NC. A native and lifelong resident of McDowell County, George was the son of the late Fred Clifton Conley and Mary Lee McCormick Conley. George worked for the City of Marion where he retired as a water treatment plant operator. Preceding him in death was his sister Ruby G. Conley Pittillo and his brother William "Bill" Coleman Conley.

Surviving Mr. Conley is his aunt Hattie Louise McCormick Burgin of Marion; a niece Debra Lynn Conley Garrett of Charlotte, NC and a nephew Steven Clifton Conley of Floyd, VA; a sister-in-law Joyce Moody Conley Myers of Lynchburg, VA; a great niece Letisha Garrett Nadelman of Charlotte, NC; great nephews William Coleman "Cole" Conley, II and Samuel Clifton "Clif" Conley of Floyd, VA and numerous beloved cousins.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 17, 2009 at Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church of which he was a member. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM immediately preceding the service.

George was an avid student of Western North Carolina History and the family requests memorials be made in lieu of flowers to: "The Historic Carson House" 1805 US 70, Marion NC 28752.

We were very sorry to hear of George's passing. We always enjoyed seeing him out in the community. He will be missed here on Clear Creek.

George has always been 'our uncle'. He always treated us so well and made us feel at home when we came to visit. We will miss him. Carolyn, John, Jackie

I remember George from all my childhood. He was always there for us kids in the neighborhood. His life will be remembered by me. True neighbors, George, Mary Lee, and Fred. My condolences to his family.
