Mrs. Arlene Hall Ledbetter, age 96, of the Montford Cove community, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the home of her daughter in Marion. Arlene was born in Shawsville, VA on June 20, 1923 to the late John Wesley Hall and Vilena Conner Hall. She worked for the FBI during World War II in Washington DC and met her husband-to-be, J. L. Ledbetter, during that time. For several years she served as the lunchroom manager at Glenwood School. She was an avid reader and an accomplished seamstress, making most of her daughter’s clothes. A longtime member of Montford Cove Missionary Baptist Church, she served there as a Sunday School teacher and in the children’s nursery. In addition to losing her husband of 57 years, J.L., she was also preceded in death by her son, Ronald Eugene Ledbetter.
Surviving are her daughter, Kaye Ledbetter Clyburn Stott (Wade) of Marion; three granddaughters, Kimberly Kaye Walker, Sarah Ledbetter Webb (A.J.) and Emma Kaye Ledbetter; and four great-grandchildren, Wesley, Dylan, Avia and Paul.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Montford Cove Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Shawn Berryhill officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery where Arlene will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
