Bonnie (Owenby) Goldsmith

July 4, 1925 ~ February 17, 2018 (age 92)

Mrs. Bonnie Owenby Goldsmith, age 92, of Marion, passed away at The Covington assisted living facility in Raleigh after several years of declining health.  Bonnie was born in Marion on July 2, 1925. One of ten children, she was the oldest daughter, born to the late Chris and Fannie Crawley Owenby.  She graduated from Marion High School in 1943.  A life-long member of First Baptist Church in Marion, she was also a member of the Sweet Adelines singing group.  Bonnie retired at age 75 from Laughridge Furniture after serving there for more than 50 years.  She loved flowers and enjoyed nothing better than working in her flower garde. She also liked to draw and do various types of needlework andtaught many needlework classes.  Her husband, George Goldsmith, preceded her in death.

 

Bonnie leaves behind her loving daughter, Jane Goldsmith Gauntz and husband Greg of Raleigh; two brothers, Alvin Owenby of Nebo and Cecil Owenby of Marion; a sister, Pansy Henson of Huntersville; and a grandson, Chris H. Gauntz of Seattle, WA.

 

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Marion with Dr. Scott Hagaman officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.  Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved George.  Flowers are appreciated, however, those desiring to make a memorial contribution in her memory are encouraged to consider First Baptist Church at 99 N. Main Street, Marion, NC  28752.
