Charles Lee Arrowood, age 77, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville. Charles was born in Spindale on September 6, 1941 to the late Boyd E. Arrowood and Lucille Gallion Arrowood.
Charles grew up in Vein Mountain and graduated from Glenwood High class of 1959. After high school, Charles served in the United States Army and was deployed to Germany. After serving in the military, he attended Charlotte School of Business in Charlotte, NC. Charles served with the North Carolina Highway Patrol. In later years, Charles drove a truck for Coca Cola Company and retired in 2004. Charles worked part time at the McDowell Convenience Center where he made many friends. In retirement, Charles served his community delivering Meals on Wheels and serving as a Chaplin at Mission Hospital McDowell. Most important to Charles was his faith. He loved and served God each and every day. His gentle spirit and his servant’s heart were evident to all who knew him. Charles was devoted to his family. He enjoyed spending time outdoors with loved ones; camping, trips to the lake, and drives on the Blue Ridge Parkway with his wife Shirley, were among his favorites.
Preceding Charles in death is his loving sister, Mary Sue Jordan.
Charles leaves a love for God and family to his wife of 54 years, Shirley Arrowood; three sons, Boyd Arrowood and wife Susan of Old Fort, Brian Arrowood and wife Kim of Weddington, NC, and Merrill Davis and wife Kathy of Old Fort; two daughters, Karen Packer and husband Chris of Old Fort and Laura Hill and Jimmy of Marion, NC; twelve Grandchildren and two great grandchildren. His was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are a brother, Wayne Arrowood and wife Bea of Clyde, NC; Sister Callie Prince and husband Herman of Rutherfordton, NC; and brother-in-law, Tommy Jordan of Charlotte NC.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 23, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Home Chapel in Marion. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Hebron Wesleyan Church in Old Fort with Pastor Todd Hinson officiating. Committal service will follow at the church with Honors provided by the North Carolina Army National Guard.
