Welcome to the memorial page for

Cyrus Ray Hensley

June 15, 1938 ~ August 24, 2017 (age 79)

Mr. Cyrus Ray Hensley, age 79, of Nebo, passed away at his home on Thursday, August 24, 2017 after a period of declining health.  A native of McDowell County, Cyrus was born on June 15, 1938 to the late Richard and Rhoda Grindstaff Hensley.  A truly God-fearing man, he was a faithful member of Bethel Free Will Baptist Church.  Although he retired from the Maintenance Department of Cross Cotton Mill, he was perhaps better known for his exceptional ability to take an idea, thought, or concept, and turn it into a reality.  An Engineer, without a degree, his ability as a machinist and master of many talents afforded him an uncanny ability to do about anything he put his mind to.  From clock repair to building elevators from scratch, his gifts were well-known.  Cyrus loved his family and as a loving husband and father, he knew heartache first hand, having lost his wife Mary Sue Elliott Hensley and a daughter, Norma Jean Hughes, both of whom preceded him in death.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Willedean Elliott Hensley; two children, Connie Hensley and Douglas Hensley, both of Nebo; five step-children, Cynthia Beam of Jonas Ridge, Ronny Elliott of Claremont, and Donny and Terry Elliott, both of Hickory, and Grady Elliott of Granite Falls; four grandchildren Taylor Hensley, Amanda Gilbert, Kyle Hensley and Steven Cheek; and three great-grandchildren, Jason, Jacob and Eliot.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Stockton officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Flowers are appreciated, however, those desiring to make a memorial contribution should consider Hospice of Rutherford County at PO Box 336, Forest City, NC  28043.
