Mrs. Geneva Duncan Walker, age 92, of the Dysartsville community, passed away peacefully at Autumn Care on Wednesday, March 7, 2018.  Geneva was born in Mitchell County on March 24, 1925, a daughter of the late Arnold and Cora Pitman Duncan.  A faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, she was a longtime, dedicated member of West Court Baptist Church where she loved to sing in the choir.  Her family and friends can attest to the power of prayer, as each surely was touched by the prayers lifted up by this dear saint.  A sweet spirit and kind nature characterized the way she lived her life and she, by example, influenced many family and friends.  She never once sought recognition or the spotlight, but her devotion to family, church, and Savior shines brightly today.  Geneva made each Sunday a special day as she planned and prepared meals and activities each week for all who gathered at her house.  Her large family was everything to her and those she leaves behind will miss her deeply.

Surviving her are four children, Gary Walker and wife Renita of Lake Wylie, SC, Jean Poteat of Marion, Shirli Carson and husband Mike of Nebo, and Harold Walker and wife Kathy of Marion; a sister, Faye Queen of Marion; a brother, Maurice Duncan of Hendersonville; eleven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a favorite niece, Patti Queen.  Her husband of 63 years, Gordon Walker, along with a sister, Marie Brown, and five brothers, Clyde, Ray, Fred, Claude, and Jesse Duncan, and a son-in-law, Billy Poteat, preceded her in death.

Her family will receive friends Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at West Court Baptist Church.  A service of remembrance and celebration of her life will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Ross Lewis, Dr. Tom Walker, and Rev. Harold Webb officiating.  Following the service she will be laid to rest by her beloved Gordon in the Laurel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.  Flowers are appreciated, or memorials may be made to the West Court Baptist Church Radio Fund at 355 West Court Street, Marion, NC 28752, or to Gideon’s International at PO Box 1788, Marion, NC 28752.
