Iona (Willis) Baker

November 28, 1935 ~ August 4, 2018 (age 82)

Iona Willis Baker, age 82, of Old Fort, reunited with her husband Ray Baker to meet her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 4, 2018 with her loving family by her side. Born in McDowell County on November 28, 1935 to the late Hobart and Irene Willis. She was the longest member of Greenlee Baptist Church, where she had a passion for playing the piano. Iona enjoyed reading anything she could get her hands on.

Iona was a virtuous woman, who can be defined in Proverbs 31:10-31. She had an unconditional love, and everyone felt trust and comfort in talking with her. Iona loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren who called her Nana.

Left behind to cherish her memories are her four children, Terry Ray Baker and wife Kathy of Raleigh, Jack Alan Baker and wife Jo of Clayton, Keith Erwin Baker and wife Dottie Jo of Morganton, and Donna J. Barnes and husband Jeff of Old Fort; one brother, James Alan Willis and wife Doris of Old Fort; four grandchildren, Jason Baker and wife Wendy of Apex, NC, Renee Allen of Old Fort, Elizabeth Baker Locke and husband James of Wilson, NC, and Melissa Baker of Morganton; three Great Grandchildren, Katlyn Barnes, Mary-Ellis Baker, and Aubrey Baker; and special nephews, Bradley and Justin Willis.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Old Fort. A service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev Coy Jeans and Rev Jack Sammons officiating. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park where Iona will be laid to rest on the day of her and Ray’s 65th wedding anniversary, with Rev Johnathon Tripp officiating the committal. Following Iona’s wishes, in lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Greenlee Baptist Church at 5967 US 70 W, Old Fort, NC. The family also wants to express their deep appreciation for Louise Mann who was their mothers’ caregiver, and always went above and beyond to take care of their mother.
