Mrs. Iris “Diantha” Vess McPeters, age 77, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Sunday, November 3, 2019. Diantha was born in Buncombe County to the late Emery Vess and Lee Davis Vess on September 27, 1942. She attended Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist church for many years. Diantha very much enjoyed her flowers and cooking. She was the prayer warrior of the family and could be counted on to be in deep prayer for any needs that her family requested. She led her family by example in her Christian walk. Diantha was a loving, caring mother figure to many, putting the needs of others before her own. She never criticized or mistreated anyone. Her family will remember her as a wonderful, forgiving, happy person, and for her smile that they will miss. She is preceded in death by her brother Raymond Vess.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 59 years, Bill McPeters; four children, Kay Scott and husband Danny of Morganton, Bobby McPeters and wife Teresa of Old Fort, Dena Peterson and husband Marty of Morganton, and Ronnie McPeters of Morganton; two sisters, Wanda Earley and husband Harvey of Old Fort and Roberta Fisher and husband Doug of Greer, S.C.; Twelve grandchildren, Julia Carpenter, Erin Peterson, Ashley Schoenen, Kala Mashburn, Kasey Scott, Robbie McPeters, Noah McPeters, Samantha Jordan, Nelson Nye, Isaiah McPeters, Emma McPeters and Michael McPeters; and fourteen great grandchildren.
A service will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion with Revs. Darvy Hensley, Ronnie Peterson, and Arnold Vess officiating. The family will greet friends an hour before the service from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the chapel. Diantha will be laid to rest in Davistown Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery following the service.
