Mr. James P. “Jim” Eckenrod, age 84, of Parrottsville, TN, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018 at his home.  A native of McDowell County, he was born on November 26, 1933 to the late Walter B. Eckenrod, Sr. and Hazel Paxton Eckenrod.  He was retired from the U. S. Air Force as a Master Sargeant where he specialized in photography and managed the photo lab.  He resided in Parrottsville, TN for the last 30 years. In addition to his parents, a brother, Walter B. Eckenrod, Jr., and a sister, Betty Gouge, preceded him in death.

 

Jim leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Alice Wallen Eckenrod of the home;  a daughter, Candie Eckenrod of Asheville, NC; six step-children, Terry Wallen of Bybee, TN, Denise Parham of Connelly Springs, NC, Bill Wallen of Fairview, NC, Ron Wallen of Tacoma, WA, Dara Shoemake of Mebane, NC, and Ken Wallen of Candler, NC; a brother, Tom Eckenrod of Marion, NC; and a sister, Jeanne Bright of Swannanoa, NC; as well as eleven grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

 

A graveside service, with full military honors, will take place on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Marion, NC.  Flowers are acceptable and appreciated, however, those desiring to make a memorial contribution in his memory are encouraged to consider the Wounded Warrior Project. 2018 Parrottsville Area Fund for Wounded Warriors at Donor Care Center, PO Box 758540, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8540 or online at supportwwp.org/welcome.  Westmoreland Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
