Jerry Moore

June 17, 1944 ~ August 20, 2018 (age 74)

Mr. Jerry Moore, age 74 of Nebo, passed away Monday, August 20, 2018 at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville following several years of declining health.  Jerry was born in Old Fort on June 17, 1944 to the late Lee and Dorothy McGaha Moore.  He enlisted in the U. S. Army at a young age and served faithfully for fourteen years.  Following his service he came home and worked as a carpenter for many years, honing his skills to the point that he could be described as a master carpenter.  Later, he decided, for various reasons, to take a different direction in his career and became associated with Ingle’s Markets where he served for many years as a truck driver.  Ultimately, his health made it necessary for him to retire after which he spent time doing the things he loved to do, hiking, woodworking and serving the Lord on various mission trips through his church, Burkemont Baptist.  Always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, Jerry could be counted on in times of trouble.  He loved his Lord, his wife, his family and many friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Jerry leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years, Terri Brown Moore, of the home; two children, Jodie Moore of Morganton and Jeremy Moore and wife Marie of Tonkawa, OK; his brother, Larry Moore and wife Diane of Old Fort; three grandchildren, Andrew, Jessie and Carol Moore; three great-grandchildren, Lana Umek, Lily Moore and Chloe Moore; and special extended family, Iztok Umek and wife Sam.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Burkemont Baptist Church in Morganton with Pastors Eddy Bunton and David Mills officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.  Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Burkemont Baptist Church at 4668 Burkemont Road, Morganton, NC  28655.
