Welcome to the memorial page for

Leonard Walker

November 19, 1946 ~ March 1, 2017 (age 70)

Mr. Leonard Walker, age 70, of Old Fort, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at his home, surrounded by the love of his family and with the full assurance that his relationship with his Heavenly Father places him now in his eternal home with his Lord Jesus Christ.  Born on November 19, 1946, Leonard was one of eleven children born to the late Young Walker and Dala Haney Walker.  He was a lifelong resident of Old Fort and a member of Cherry Springs Baptist Church since childhood.  A builder, Leonard took great pride in the quality of his work and had a reputation as one of the finest in the area.  He eventually retired from Suitt Construction Co. as a Superintendent.  A well-known and respected member of the Old Fort community, he quietly and selflessly helped many people over the years who were in need of assistance.  As a Master Gardener, each year Leonard could be counted on to produce a massive garden and many friends and family benefitted from his labors.  He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many and his passing will leave a void in the lives of all who came to know and love this great man and he will be deeply missed.  A son, Joseph Rumfelt, and two brothers, Lionel and Leland Walker, preceded him in death.

Leonard leaves behind his beloved wife of 23 years, Barbara Hensley Walker of the home; three children, Shannon Bullman and wife Maya of Japan, Damon Walker of Marion, and Lisa Padgham and husband John of Old Fort; four brothers, Rellon Walker and wife Edith, Randall Walker and wife Lavonne, Lance Walker and wife Teresa, and Nathan Walker, all of Old Fort; four sisters, Madge Fore, Mina Matthews and husband Larry, Grace Young, and Lala Thomas and husband Larry, all of Old Fort; three granddaughters, one grandson, and one great-grandson.

A service in celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Cherry Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Gerald Gibson and Rev. Marty Conner officiating.  The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Service in Old Fort, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.  Burial will be in Cherry Springs Memorial Park
