Rebecca Anne Pettit, age 76, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Buncombe County on October 26, 1942 to the late Joseph Harlan Pettit and Henrietta Pike Pettit. She was retired from the Skyland Volvo Heavy Equipment dealer where she worked as a sales liaison in the Customer Service Department. Considered the Rock of her family, her desire to make sure that her family and friends were well fed and taken care of was her hallmark. She was always ready with good advice, if asked, and with her family’s best interest at the heart of it. Her free and adventurous spirit was well-known and in her younger days she enjoyed traveling extensively. Rebecca was also an avid reader, a trait that served her well as it gave her a broad knowledge in many subjects. She was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church and attended there until her declining health would not allow her to continue.
Rebecca leaves behind three children, Jeff Pettit of Marion, Kathy Harkleroad and husband Mark of Dysartsville and Harlene Matthews and husband Chris of Old Fort; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A service in celebration of her life will take place on Friday, June 7, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Kenneth Queen officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to CarePartners Hospice McDowell at 575 Airport Road, Marion, NC 28752.
