Sharon Denise “Sheri” Ward, age 57, of Marion, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, April 16, 2019.  Her mother and daughter were with her at Solace Center in Asheville when she passed.  Sheri was born in Marion on April 10, 1962 to Howard O. “Jimmy”” Ward and Betty Allison Ward.

Sheri worked as an orthodontist assistant for several years, then later as a computer technician until her health would not allow her to work any longer.  Sheri has fought a long, hard battle with diabetes but always had an optimistic outlook on life, maintaining a peaceful and gracious attitude.  Her love for her children and grandchildren has always kept her going.  Sheri was a member of Nebo First Baptist Church and more recently attended New Horizon Baptist Fellowship.  When her health began to decline, Sheri worshipped through Grace Community Church’s online services.

Sheri loved traveling, especially to the beach.  She loved shopping, trying new restaurants, meeting new people, and music and dancing.  More than anything, Sheri loved her grandbabies and her many nieces and nephews.  She always had time to take them to the library or play board games with them.

Sheri loved the simple things of life, including nature and socializing with friends old and new.  She never met a stranger and if you were her friend she was fiercely loyal, attentive, sympathetic, encouraging and supportive.  She would do anything she could to help those she loved, and all who knew and loved her will miss her deeply.  A granddaughter, Lillie Anne Mastin, preceded her in death.

Saddened at her passing, in addition to her loving parents, are two children, Lt. Alex Mastin and wife Kayla of Charleston, SC and Emily Mastin of Marion; her sister, Tammy Ward Greene and husband Ralph of Marion; her brother Steve Ward and wife Jane of Marion; eight grandchildren, Elijah, James, Leland, Stella, Josie, Lucas, Caroline, and Grant; numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins; her “Bestie” friend, Elaine Weeks; and her beloved canine buddy, Puffy.

A service of remembrance and celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Steve Bugenhagen officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.  Following services, Sheri will be laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery.  Flowers are appreciated, however, those desiring to make a memorial contribution in Sheri’s memory are encouraged to consider New Horizon Baptist Fellowship at 5878 Hwy. 221 North, Marion, NC  28752, or CarePartners Hospice and Palliative Care at PO Box 5779, Asheville, NC  28813.
