William “Doug” Moore, Sr., a native of McDowell County, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at the age of 79. Doug was born to the late Julia Moore Hooper on March 14, 1940. He enjoyed selling merchandise at the Flea Market and spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. Doug is preceded in death by his son, William Douglas Moore, Jr., and by two brothers, Benny Moore and James Hooper.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Vergie Green Moore; three sons, Dewayne Moore, Sr. of SC, Bradford Moore and wife Charlene of CA, and James Moore and wife Lisa of CA; three sisters, Margaret Peterson of Asheville, Della McKesson of Marion and Roberta Long and husband William of Glen Alpine; three brothers, Arthur Hooper and wife Virginia, Robert Hooper and wife Detra, and Walter Hooper, all of Marion; an aunt, Joyce M. Pertiller of Black Mountain; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, 2 sister-in-laws and relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 11, 2020 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion. A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Conley officiating and Minister Alice Murphy assisting. Interment will take place in the McDowell Cemetery following the service.
