Donald L. Anderson, 94, of Old Fort, North Carolina, passed away on February 8, 2021.
Donald was born in Nebo, NC, to the late Thomas Walter and Annie Michael Anderson on May 23, 1926. He served during World War II as a Military Policeman in the U.S. Army, and taught agriculture to returning servicemen in the Veteran’s Farm Program. Donald graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education. He then taught agriculture and vocational arts at Old Fort and McDowell County High Schools for over 20 years and was involved with 4-H and the Future Farmers of America. He married Shirley Ann Lytle on August 17, 1958, in Old Fort, NC. Donald had a second career in real estate which lasted 40 years.
Donald was a deacon at Old Fort First Baptist Church for many years and was most recently a member of Marion First Baptist Church.
Donald was preceded by his siblings: Arnold, Bessie, Herman, Millie, Ruebelle, and Sadie and his step-mother, Essie Anderson.
Donald is survived by his wife of 62 years; their sons Brent Anderson and Brandy Bowman, Dale Anderson and Marilyn Mielke, and Greg and Heather Anderson; their grandchildren Ian Anderson (Andrea), Sam Anderson, Grace Anderson, Molly Anderson, and Noelle Mielke; and their great-grandchildren Teddy and Calvin Anderson.
Funeral services will be held graveside for close friends and family at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at Glenwood Cemetery. The Reverend Scott Hagaman officiating. Arrangements are by Westmoreland Funeral Home.
