On the morning of Monday, April 12, 2021, Mr. Gerald Worley, age 77 of Marion, made the peaceful transition into the arms of the Lord at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville. The son of the late Lewis Crawford Worley and Pearl Ball Worley, who passed away on January 25, 2021, he was born in Buncombe County on Tuesday, February 15, 1944.
Gerald was known as a true handyman around the house and loved working with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved his family and was a devout husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Gerald owned and operated the Village Barbershop in Swannanoa, which he greatly enjoyed, as well as being a member of the Glenwood Ruritan and a proud volunteer member of the Glenwood Fire Department for forty-one years. Gerald was also a devoted member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, where he was an active member for the past 68 years. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends who he made along his journey.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was also preceded in death an infant sister, who was also his twin, Carol Worley.
Left to cherish his precious memories are his beloved wife of fifty-six years, Joyce Townsend Worley, and two wonderful sons, Derek Worley, and wife Teresa, and Darren Worley and wife Jenifer, both of Marion. He also leaves behind four amazing grandchildren, Ashlee Worley Hayden, and husband Dylan, Courtney Worley, Bailey Worley and fiancé Amanda Putman, and Andrew Worley and wife Sierra, as well as three great grandchildren, Nicole Dillon, Kyler Hayden, and Everlee Worley.
A funeral Service to celebrate Gerald’s life will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. at Zion Hill Baptist Church, with Dr. Tom Walker and Mr. Paul Baker officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M., two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the funeral service in the church cemetery.
