Irene Kanipe Morgan Rayburn, age 90, passed away on Monday February 17, 2020 at her residence with her grandson Mike by her side. Irene was born in McDowell County on July 31, 1929 to the late Charles Kanipe and Carrie Gurley Kanipe. Irene was a devoted Sunday school teacher and a loving grandmother. She will be remembered as a strong willed woman that was the foundation of her family. Irene was a forgiving and compassionate woman, who welcomed all into her life.
Irene was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence Y Morgan; second husband of 36 years, Dewey L Rayburn Sr.; son, Clarence Douglas Morgan and stepdaughter, Theresa Rayburn Dennis.
Surviving Irene are two grandsons, Mike Morgan of Marion and Tim Morgan and wife Diana of Savannah GA; a step grandson, Jimmy Justice of Germany; a step granddaughter, Mandy Dennis of Marion; a step grandson, Donnie Dennis of Marion; a sister Nancy Kanipe Tate of Highpoint; a brother, Steve Kanipe Princeton, KY; 6 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren and close friend Wendy Chapman of Marion.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 24, 2020 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Eric Grindstaff officiating. Irene will be laid to rest by her first husband Clarence Y. Morgan at McDowell Memorial Park concluding the funeral service.
