Jane Hollifield Owensby, age 73, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at her home in Marion. Jane was born in McDowell County on December 7, 1946, a daughter of the late William Virshel Hollifield and Evelyn Cox Hollifield. She was a Nurse and served faithfully at Highland Farms in Black Mountain and the Baptist Retirement Home in Asheville. Jane had many friends and was known and respected for her strong will and unwavering loyalty to those she loved. As a believer in “tough love”, she would always let you know where she stood when asked. Jane enjoyed giving back by volunteering at the Senior Center, the Corpening YMCA and by delivering food to shut-ins through the Meals on Wheels Program. A lifelong member of East Marion United Methodist Church, she was active in the Choir and would also sing solo for many seasonal church functions, funerals, and the like.
Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Lester Owensby; a son, Jason Owensby and wife Jenni and their daughter Ali, all of Cornelius, NC; her sister, Judy Frady and husband James of Marion; a sister-in-law, Vickie Hollifield of Fairfax, SC; and her uncle and aunt, Norman and Margie Cox of Marion.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a visitation and memorial service at her church will take place once restrictions have eased. Memorials may be made to East Marion United Methodist Church at PO Box 2481, Marion, NC 28752, or to the McDowell County Senior Center Meals on Wheels Program at 100 Spaulding Road, Marion, NC 28752.
