Jeffrey Allen Bray, 59, died of natural causes on April 2, 2021 in Marion, North Carolina. Jeff, as he was known to all, was born in St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, Illinois, on September 1, 1961, to Carlos D. and Shirley J. (Carey) Bray. Both parents preceded Jeff in death as did one paternal sibling, Ronald D. Bray, and one maternal sibling, Nancy Potter. Jeff is survived by his three siblings of Carlos and Shirley: Joe Bray, Linda Shafer, and Bill Bray, as well as a sibling from his paternal side; Marion Marchetti. He is also survived by his four children: Justin Bray, Jeremy Bray, Samantha Bray, and Megan Baugher.
A 1979 graduate of Olympia High School, Jeff spent six years on active duty in the US Navy as an Electronics Warfare Technician, rising to the rank of Petty Officer 2nd class. Jeff received an honorable discharge in 1988, and then worked in various industries such as concrete construction, roofing, and manufacturing.
Jeff was loyal to his friends and generous to even strangers in need of help. Later in life, family became increasingly important to him. He spent a lot of time researching his family heritage, and most recently was laying plans for an extended family reunion. His friends and relatives, many of whom had lost touch with each other for many years, are now reaching out to each other with the sad news of his passing and with the plans for his memorial service, Jeff is accomplishing in his death what he had planned to do in his life.
As per his wishes, Jeff’s cremated remains will be returned to Illinois and scattered at a time and place that are yet to be determined.
