At the age of 91, Jessie “Mae” McPeters, of Old Fort, NC passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2021. Mae is a native of Avery County and was born on May 15, 1929 to the late Thomas “Gibbs” Greene and Vina Cook Greene. Mae loved the Lord and it showed through her walk in life. Mae would tell everyone she met about her Savior Jesus Christ. She had a hunger for God’s word and knew the Bible front and back. A prayer Warrior, Mae would intercede for all her friends and family praying for a hedge of protection around them. She was a member of Old Fort Church of God for 60 years and taught Sunday School for almost 50 years. God gave Mae a musicialy talent. She enjoyed singing and played many instruments, including the piano, organ, guitar and the omnichord.
Mae is the last of eleven children. Talmadge, Oscar, Frank, Ballard, Dimple, Edith, Eva, Ruby, Georgia and Jack are her siblings that preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her husband George W. McPeters and infant son, Tommy Roger McPeters.
Surviving Mae are her five children, Geneva E. Burnette, of Old Fort, Judy A Lawes (Mac), of Old Fort, G. Michael McPeters of Marion, Dennis R. McPeters, of Old Fort, and David L. McPeters (Diana) of Marion; ten grandchildren, Robert, Richard ,Allen, Keith, Jamie, Chastity, Jarrod, Cortni, Jennifer, and Brandy; sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Old Fort Church of God with Rev. Brenda Allison and Mrs. Vina Padgett officaing. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Old Fort City Cemetery.
