On Thursday, April 29, 2021, Mrs. Mary Buchanan Wilson graduated from this life to be with her Heavenly Father. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James Calvin (J.C.) Wilson in 2018.
Mary was the daughter of the late Isaac Buchanan and Crettie Peterson Buchanan. She was born in Mitchell County on September 11, 1931. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her five brothers, J.D., Tom, Howard, Danie, and Jack, as well as two sisters, Blanche and Hettie.
Mary was a faithful pastor’s wife and stood by her late husband as he pastored churches in Yancey, Buncombe and McDowell Counties. She was J.C.’s partner in ministry for over sixty years and loved to listen to and sing gospel music. Mary was also an original member of the Harvest Time Quartet. Professionally, she worked at and retired from the Welch Allyn Company where she dedicated many years of service. Mary took joy in many of the simple things in life such as working outside. Most of all she loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Cherry Springs Baptist Church. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved her family dearly, and will be missed by all who knew her.
Left behind to cherish her beloved memories are her four children, Sherrill Wilson, and wife Vicki, Greg Wilson and wife Jennie, Crystal Marlowe and husband David, and Vanessa Woody and husband Mike. Mary also leaves behind ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at Cherry Springs Memorial Park in Old Fort.
