Nancy Elizabeth Wilson Hicks

September 3, 1938 ~ February 1, 2021 (age 82)

Obituary

Nancy Elizabeth Wilson Hicks born September 3rd 1938, Winston-Salem NC, daughter of Fred and Olive Wilson of Black Mountain, died peacefully at home on February 1, 2021 surrounded by her family.  Nancy was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to many people far and wide. Nancy had a deep love for the mountains of North Carolina and was right where she wanted to be as she ascended to Heaven to be with her Heavenly Father.

Long term resident of Old Fort and Gateway Mountain, she loved nature, hiking, and was an amateur naturalist that could recognize flora and fauna and would often point out names of the plants as she walked through the woods. She was known as a very generous, kind, and loving person.

Nancy is predeceased by her parents and brother Emory Wilson. She is survived by her husband Larry Hicks, their son Robert (Mercedes) Hicks, and daughter Wendy (Lee) Anderson, as well as grandsons Will Hicks, Nathan Anderson, Alex Anderson, and granddaughters Sofia Hicks-Valls and Emily Anderson.

Thanks to the prayers and care of many, she was able to press on and keep going when times were tough. There are many people she and the family would like to thank including the doctors, nurses and  other caregivers, Hope Cancer Center, the people of Bethel United Methodist, the neighbors of Gateway  Mountain, hospice care nurses and many,  many others who offered prayers, organized and delivered  food, and provided help with anything that was needed. Bless you all.

Due to Covid restrictions, the family plans to have a celebration of life for Nancy at a later time when we can all safely be together again in person. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Bethel United Methodist Church, PO Box 1443, Old Fort, NC 28762 or Care Partners Hospice McDowell, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
