Naomi Marie Bucklin, age 91, of Canton, NC, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2020.
Naomi was born Naomi Marie Nastos on August 18, 1928 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the youngest daughter of Nicholas Andrew Nastos and Mildred A. Dunifon. Her father immigrated from Greece at the age of 12 and became a United States citizen as a young man. She was married to Harold W. Sprague in 1942 until his death in 1975 from complications from illness contracted in WWII in the pacific theater. She remarried to George M. Bucklin, a Korean War Veteran, in 1976 until his death in 2010.
She was also preceded in death by her son, William Sprague (2019). She is survived by her daughter, Diane and son-in-law, Scott Page. They have three children, two with spouses, one engaged and 4 great grandchildren. She is also survived by three step-children, of Michigan to include Debbie Babbas, George Bucklin, Jr, and Shellie Budreau; spouses and significant others, six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Naomi was known for her crafting talent, Greek cooking, outgoing personality and volunteerism. She moved to North Carolina in 2010 to be close to her daughter to assist with her husband through his illness and remained after his death. She became a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed the many friendships made there.
There will be a memorial service in her honor at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Canton, NC on June 4 at 7:00 p.m. (All COVID19 health precautions will be followed.) Her remains will be interred at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens in Battle Creek, MI at a later date. She requested prior to her death to make donations to Mt. Zion Baptist Church in lieu of flowers.
