On Sunday, January 31, 2021, at the age of 95, Rev. Theodore Styles received his reward and is now with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Chirst. He was born on July 11, 1925 in Swain County to the late Lucy Styles Jenkins. He retired from Great Lakes Carbon in Morganton. Theodore pastored for almost 40 years at Blue Ridge Baptist Church, Solid Rock Freewill Baptist Church and Hicks Memorial Church. He preached for many years on the radio at WTOE out of Spruce Pine. Theodore was a humble man, who loved his family and everyone he knew. He will be missed by many.
Preceding Theodore in death, in addition to his mother, are his grandmother Docia Queen Styles, who raised him, beloved daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Styles and brother Roy Gourley.
Left to cherish Theodore’s memory are his wife of 70 years, Mary Laws Styles; four children, Linda Houpe (Harry) of Nebo, Becky Davis (Glenn) of Marion, J.T. Styles (Tina) of Morganton, and Teddy Styles (Vicky) of Nebo; a special granddaughter, Sherry Moore (Russell), daughter of Nancy; 15 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, numerous nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Elodia.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. JB Cope officiating. The visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. A private committal service will follow the funeral service in Solid Rock Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the McDowell Pregnancy Care Center at 40 S. Main St, Marion, NC, 28752.
