Ruth Black Davis, age 81, of Marion went home to be with her Lord on Friday, February 14, 2020. A native of Davison County, Ruth was born on July 24, 1938 to the late Walter P. Black and Ola Mae Payne Black. Ruth was a long time member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. Her pastime was spent working jigsaw puzzles and reading. Ruth had a heart for people, she took great joy in giving to others and would help anyone she could. Children especially had a place in her compassion, any child that walked through her door she would adopt as her own.
Surviving Ruth are her husband of 63 years, Carol Davis; two sons, Phillip Davis and wife Donna Kay and Wayne Davis and wife Donna Lynn both of Marion; a daughter, Vickie Davis Biggerstaff and husband Michael of Spruce Pine; three grandchildren, Dr. Melody Wrench and husband Ben, Laura Pittman and husband Jeff and Kaitlin Davis, RVT; and one great grandchild, Brantley Wayne Pittman.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 17, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home with Dr. Tom Walker officiating. Interment will follow the service in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Mitchell County at 236 Hospital Dr, Spruce Pine, NC, 28777.
