During the early morning hours of Friday, April 16, 2021, Mrs. Ruthie Buckner Gentry, age 86 of Marion, peacefully transitioned from this world during her stay at Mountain Ridge Health and Wellness. A native of Buncombe County, she was born on February 03, 1935, to the late Isaac Newberry Buckner and Mattie Jane Price Buckner.
A nature lover at heart, Ruthie was known by her family and friends as an avid gardener who had a special love for watching her butterflies and birds. She not only kept a flower garden, but also tended to the needs of her vegetable garden. Ruthie thoroughly enjoyed shopping and had a passion for crossword puzzles. As her family would describe her, Ruthie was a sassy lady and a true firecracker with a deep devotion to her Lord and Savior and to her beloved family. The loss of her fun-loving personality and vibrant spirit will leave a deep heartache for the family and friends she leaves behind.
Ruthie is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lawrence Gentry, three brothers, Paul, Albert, and Bobby Buckner, and one sister, Ellen Silver.
Left behind to cherish her beloved memory are her three children, Dianne Caraway and Karen Gentry of Marion, and Larry Gentry of Columbus, NC; four siblings, Ferman Buckner of Tacoma WA, and Clifton Buckner, Faye Mann, and JD Buckner of Marion. Ruthie also leaves behind four grandchildren, Isaac Gentry, Justin Caraway, Tori Gentry and Emily Forbes, as well as five great grandchildren, Mila, Paisley, Carter, Khloe, and Leianni; her precious canine companion Baby Doll, and many friends she made along her way.
A gathering of friends and family to celebrate Ruthie’s life and share stories and fond memories will be held on Monday, April 19, 2021, in the Chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M.
A private interment will take place at Drucilla Independent Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ruthie’s honor can be made to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, PO Box 8195, Asheville, North Carolina 28814.
