Mrs. Shirley Williams Moore, age 80, of Old Fort, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2020 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville. Shirley was a lifelong resident of McDowell County, born on January 18, 1940 and was the daughter of the late Samuel and Reba Parker Williams. She will be remembered for her contagious smile and sweet spirit. She loved flowers, hummingbirds, painting, riding the parkway, and spending time with the ones she loved most. Shirley was a dedicated mother, who treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nanny. She had a vibrant personality and always made people around her laugh.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Howard Moore and a brother, Jerry Williams.
Shirley leaves behind her two children, Rodger Moore and wife Georgia of Marion and Marlene Smith and husband Greg of Old Fort; four grandchildren, Wendy Rose, Bridgett Owens, Emily Owens and Brady Smith; six great grandchildren; one great great grandson and her four-legged friend and best buddy, Teddy.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion with Revs. Keith Jamison, Jeff Parker and Ken Massingill officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home. Shirley will be laid to rest by her husband Howard in Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
