Mr. William Franklin Grant, Jr. of Grace Ridge Retirement Center, Morganton, NC, passed away on December 27, 2020 at the age of 99.
He was born May 4, 1921 in Marion, NC and was the son of William Franklin Grant and Mary Ellen Allison.
Mr. Grant graduated from Marion High School and received his college education from Brevard Junior College, East Carolina Teachers College (ECU) and the Graduate School of Banking, Louisiana State University. He played football at Brevard and ECU. He was a member of East Carolina’s only undefeated team in 1941.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy as a Control Tower Operator.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mildred (Millie) Ragan Grant after 64 years of marriage, and by a sister, Mrs. Edith Margret Grant Ramsey.
Mr. Grant began his banking career at The First National Bank, Marion, NC in 1946. He served as an Officer at The First National Bank, Hickory, NC, Alexandria National Bank, Alexandria, VA, and The Peoples National Bank, Chester, SC. He retired as a Senior Vice President of The Peoples National Bank, Chester, SC in 1983.
Survivors include three sons, William F. Grant III and wife Patricia of Charlotte, NC, Dr. Michael R. Grant of Seneca, SC, and David A. Grant and wife Lynn of Winston Salem, NC. One granddaughter, Mrs. Allison Grant Brunet and husband Jonathan. And two great grandsons, Cole Brunet and Evan Brunet, all of Chester, SC.
A private graveside service will be held at McDowell Memorial Park, Marion, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, P.O. 678, Morganton, NC 28680.
